According to Xinhua News Agency, the two leaders had a `frank and in-depth` exchange on China-US relations and views on issues of mutual concern.

The phone call took place in the context of relations between the two countries gradually improving in recent months.

During the phone call, Mr. Xi Jinping noted that the summit with Mr. Biden in San Francisco in November 2023 opened a vision for the future for the two countries.

`Two big countries like China and the US should not cut off relations, turn their backs on each other, and should not fall into conflict or confrontation. The two countries need to respect each other, coexist peacefully and cooperate together.`

The Chinese leader continued to emphasize that if the US is willing to cooperate for mutual benefit, China’s door will always be open.

Mr. Xi also talked about the Taiwan issue, considering it the first uncrossable `red line` in China-US relations.

On the US side, the White House described the 1 hour and 45 minute conversation as `frank and constructive` on a series of issues of common concern to the leaders.

President Biden noted that the US-China relationship is the most consequential relationship in the world.

President Biden affirmed, `America is not looking for a new Cold War` and the country’s alliances are not aimed against Beijing.

Mr. Biden also emphasized that the US does not support Taiwan independence and does not seek conflict with China.

The US leader emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as well as respect for the law and freedom of navigation in the East Sea.

During the phone call, hot global issues were also of concern to both leaders, including Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula, the Gaza war situation…

According to a White House statement, the two leaders also discussed a number of issues where US and Chinese officials see opportunities for cooperation, including anti-drugs and the rapidly developing world of artificial intelligence.

Also on April 2, both China and the US confirmed that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will return to visit China in the next few weeks.
