NATO is directly responsible for the conflict in Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Yunbin said on April 26.
A day earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg accused China of supporting Russia’s weapons production through exporting components with both civil and military uses to Moscow.
`China says it wants a good relationship with the West. At the same time, Beijing continues to spark the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II. They can’t do it all.`
Mr. Uong denied the accusations from NATO, emphasizing that this was just an unfounded rumor.
He added that the US-led military bloc `should reflect on its role, stop blaming and do something practical to promote a political solution to the conflict`.
According to Beijing, NATO’s expansion in Europe and its refusal to consider Russia’s national security concerns have fueled hostility.
Mr. Stoltenberg said that, by 2023, `Russia will import 90% of microelectronic equipment from China, used to produce missiles, tanks and aircraft.`
Mr. Uong said that `more than 60% of weapons parts and dual-use items imported by Russia come from the US and the West`.
Previously, the US also accused China of supporting Russia in the war with Ukraine through exporting dual-use equipment and components.
On April 26, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Washington is ready to introduce more sanctions against China for accusing Beijing of supporting Russia.
Speaking at a press conference while on a trip to China, Mr. Blinken said that the US had imposed sanctions on more than 100 Chinese entities and was prepared to take additional measures.
Mr. Blinken accused China of supporting the Russian defense industry and this raised concerns not only about the situation in Ukraine but also about `the medium and long-term threat that many Europeans clearly feel.`
China criticized the US for this statement, saying that Washington had supported Ukraine with billions of dollars but `unreasonably condemned the normal economic and trade relationship between Russia and China`.
Up to now, China is still maintaining a neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine war.
