(Dan Tri) – If MG Motor cannot find a new distributor, it may have to temporarily bid farewell to the Vietnamese market.
Malaysian media recently reported that SAIC Motor International Co., Ltd.
Along with that, from June 30, TC Services Vietnam – a company belonging to Tan Chong Motor Group will no longer be the exclusive importer and distributor of the MG brand in our country.
Before MG Motor, Tan Chong used to be the importer and distributor of the Nissan automobile brand in Vietnam but lost the rights in 2018. It was not until 2020 that Nissan had a new distributor, the Automobile Industry Development Company Limited.
SMIL announced the termination of the MG car distribution agreement abroad, so the fate of this British auto brand in our country is still unclear.
After Nissan had a new distributor, Tan Chong quickly sought new opportunities and brought MG Motor to Vietnam, launching the first two models, ZS and HS, in the B and C size SUV segments on January 17.
Despite having more attractive prices than direct competitors, the business situation at that time of MG ZS and HS was not very optimistic because they were imported in complete units from China – a market where Vietnamese people still hold many prejudices.
MG HS has the highest selling price of up to 999 million VND, lower than competitors in the C-SUV segment but is not of interest to Vietnamese customers because it is imported from China (Photo: MG Vietnam).
In 2021, MG ZS will receive a facelift and switch to importing complete units from Thailand.
MG HS stopped selling again in September 2022 and early this year.
Previously, at the end of February, the sales consultant said that MG HS 2023 would return home in June at the earliest or September 2023 at the latest.
In addition to ZS, MG Vietnam just added MG5 in March 2022, imported from Thailand.
According to sales consultants, MG5 has better sales than MG ZS (Photo: Trung Kien).
Within the framework of the Vietnam Automobile Exhibition (VMS) 2022 taking place in October last year, MG Motor also participated with a majestic stage, displaying two electric car models Marvel R and MG4 with the implication that they could be launched in the country.
However, with a major change in distributors, these products will be difficult to reach Vietnamese customers.
