(Dan Tri) – Experts say that the UAV attack on the Kremlin – which Russia accuses Ukraine of being behind – could become a turning point in the war that has lasted more than 14 months between the two countries.

Russia on May 3 accused Ukraine of launching a UAV into the Kremlin to carry out a `plan to assassinate` President Vladimir Putin.

According to Newsweek, in a context where it is currently unclear who is behind the raid, experts say the incident could become a turning point in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Mr. Mark N. Katz from the Schar School of Policy at George Mason University (USA) told Newsweek: `It is unclear where these drones come from. Even if they are equipped with weapons, the ability to identify them is unknown.`

Russian state media reported that Putin was working at the Novo Ogaryovo residence outside Moscow when the incident occurred.

Before the attack, Russian state media reported last week about other drones discovered near Moscow, including one believed to contain explosives.

At that time, retired US Army Major John Spencer said that if the scenario of Ukraine attacking Moscow occurred, this would likely affect Russian public opinion with the war lasting more than a year.

On the other hand, Russia has also hinted at possible retaliation against senior Ukrainian figures.

Vice Chairman of Russia’s National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned: `After the incident, there is no other choice but to eliminate Mr. Zelensky and his subordinates. We do not need him to sign an unconditional surrender.`

Meanwhile, Russian parliamentarian Viktor Sobolev accused Ukraine of being behind the attack, considering this `the last red line that Kiev has crossed`.

According to expert David Silbey from Cornell University (USA), the incident could make Russia decide to further escalate its military campaign in Ukraine, targeting the enemy’s decision-making bases.

According to Mr. Silbey, Russia still possesses weapons and wide-area attack tactics that could further escalate the situation.

In addition, this incident continues to make Russia-Ukraine relations more tense, leading to the prospect of a negotiation seemingly becoming more distant.
